To celebrate National Barbie Day (March 9), the Aurora Public Library District is turning into a Barbie world! If you love all things Barbie, then you won’t want to miss two upcoming Barbie-themed programs for children and families. Whether you’re a lifelong fan of the iconic doll or just looking for a creative way to spend an afternoon, these fun activities will bring the magic of Barbie to life, designer clothes and all!

Our Barbie Bash at the Santori Library is full of crafts and activities that sparkle and shine. Attendees will have the chance to design an outfit for a Barbie paper doll using a variety of fabrics, ribbons, and other fun materials. “I’m always impressed by the unique ways kids use craft supplies when given free reign,” said library assistant Sarah. Want to add a little extra sparkle (I mean, who doesn’t)? Stop by the do-it-yourself nail-painting station! There will also be a photo booth to strike a pose and capture the glitz and glamour of the day. “I’m really hoping kids will dress up and make this a real red-carpet event!” added Sarah.

The Eola Road Branch is hosting a Barbie themed event titled Barbie BINGO & Craft. Librarian Caitlin has created custom BINGO sheets featuring iconic Barbie-themed images. “The game will be a fun way to connect over the love of Barbie!” said Caitlin. “Fans will definitely have a great time, but even if you don’t play with Barbies, everyone loves the competition aspect of BINGO!” And the fun doesn’t stop there—children will also have the chance to craft their own beaded bracelet or necklace, creating a stylish accessory to take home. This event is all about celebrating what makes Barbie special while giving kids a space to enjoy themselves. “It is always so much fun to offer programs related to things kids already love,” added Caitlin. “It is a great way to show kids that their interests are important. Barbie is for everyone!”

Both of these programs offer an exciting way to connect with Barbie fans, explore creative hobbies, and have a great time. We will also have special displays of Barbie books and movies available for checkout, which means the fun doesn’t have to end when the event is over. So, put on a pink outfit, grab your friends, and come celebrate Barbie with us at APLD! The Barbie Bash will be Sunday, March 9 at 2 p.m. at the Santori Library and Barbie BINGO and Craft will be Wednesday, March 12 at 6 p.m. at the Eola Road Branch. Both events are targeted for ages six to 11. It’s a sparkly, fun-filled adventure you won’t want to miss!

Andrea Tiberi is the communications coordinator for the Aurora Public Library District.
