Many musical March events: Fox Valley Music Consortium

Fox Valley Music Consortium, a nonprofit group of performing musicians, will celebrate March with three concerts.

The public is invited. Tickets vary by concert.

•Sunday, March 16, the Fox Valley Orchestra will perform a classical concert at 2 p.m. at Marmion Abbey church, 850 Butterfield Road in Aurora. The program includes Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, Copland’s “Quiet City,” Hovhaness’ “Prayer of St. Gregory,” Shostakovich’s “Chamber Symphony,” Holst’s “Brook Green Suite,” and Mozart’s “Divertimento in D, K. 136.” Steven Squires will conduct. Featured will be Mark Ponzo on trumpet and Lisa Bradley on English horn

Admission is $20 for adults and $18 for seniors and students online until noon, Saturday, March; 15 and at the door, adults $25, seniors and students $22 and children up to 8 $18. Order tickets at www.foxvalleyorchestra.org/season.php.

•Sunday, March 23, the Fox Valley Jazz Big Band will perform at 4 p.m. at Waubonsee Community College auditorium at the Sugar Grove campus. Featured will be classics from the 1930s through modern pieces. Jeff Ford will direct. Vocalist is Julie Ann Caselli.

•Sunday, March 30, at 3 p.m., the Fox Valley Brass Band and Illinois Brass Band will perform at Wesley United Methodist Church, 14 N. May St. in Aurora. Victor Anderson will direct the Fox Valley band. Scheduled numbers are “Proclamation,” by Tom Davoren; “Hymn for Diana,” by James Curnow, a memorial to late Princess Diana; “Esprit,” by James Curnow; and “Lincoln Posy,” by Percy Aldridge Grainger. a musical portrait of six folk tunes sung by folksingers during his 1905-1906 trip to Lincolnshire, England. Steven Squires will direct.

The concert will conclude with the combined bands playing James Curnow’s “Fanfare and Flourishes” and “Amazing Grace” by William Himes. Victor Anderson will conduct.
