Three Fires Council to honor Aurora everyday heroes May 1

Scouting America, Three Fires Council is scheduled to host its annual Aurora Everyday Heroes event Thursday, May 1 at the Prisco Center, 150 W Illinois Avenue, Aurora. This event serves to celebrate and honor heroes in the community who have made a positive impact on those around them.

This year’s event will honor:

Joe Grisson, III who has served as twice-elected commissioner-at-large for the Fox Valley Park District, chairman of the Aurora Housing Authority, and State and regional vice president of Commissioners for the National Association of Redevelopment Officials.

Avis P. Miller has led a myriad of organizations in the pursuit of a peaceful and prosperous Aurora, including Taking Back Our Community, the Aurora Public Library Board, African-American Heritage Advisory Board, Aurora Housing Authority Board, Aurora Actionnaires, East Aurora Alumni Association, and East Aurora School Board.

Dr. Jeff Craig currently serves as the Superintendent of West Aurora School District 129 and has served as the former chairman of Aurora’s Educational Commission. He also currently serves as the director of Education and Workforce Development for the City of Aurora.

Event co-chair Dan Barreiro said, “The Everyday Heroes Breakfast was developed to help create awareness about Scouting and to build community support to help Scouting grow in the Aurora area. Our goal is to have more youth involved in the Scouting program to provide them with experiences that help them become prepared for life while having fun.”
