Brave adventurers, the realm of Aurora beckons you to embark on an epic journey of knowledge and discovery! The Aurora Public Library District’s Summer Reading Adventure, Level Up at Your Library, is a call to all heroes—young and old—to level up through the completion of quests at home, in the community, and at the library. This year’s program will be from Sunday, June 1 to Thursday, July 31 so gather your party and prepare for a journey of adventure, learning, and fun!

Each summer, the Summer Reading Adventure returns—a seasonal quest inviting all to explore the library and rediscover the joy of reading. This program is designed to be both enjoyable and rewarding for all ages. “For our young customers, our summer reading program is a fun way to encourage kids and teens to read during the summer to prevent the summer slide,” said librarian Caitlin. The summer slide is the loss of knowledge and skills that occurs during the months between school years. This slide backwards on the academic scale can make it more challenging for students to start strong in the fall. The Summer Reading Adventure helps young readers stay sharp and ready for the challenges ahead.

Alas, the journey is not just for the young. Adults too, are encouraged to join. Caitlin added, “It also helps to encourage adults to read, try new things, and participate in their library during the busy summer season!” Whether you’re an apprentice or a seasoned scholar, the Summer Reading Adventure offers something for all who seek knowledge and fun.

Mark thy calendars, for Saturday, June 7, the call to adventure will begin in earnest at our Kick-Off Party, held in the Santori Library’s grand courtyard (or as locals call it, the parking lot). There, the air will be alive with music from the enchanting Callaloo Chicago World Fusion Steelpan Group (from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.) and songwriter Todd Downing (from 11 a.m. to noon). Sustenance in the form of hot dogs shall be provided by Heavenly Hot Dogs—though supplies are limited. Gaming lovers can meet the legendary duo Mario & Princess Peaches, face off in giant yard games, and express their creativity with game themed crafts. Whether you come for the music, the games, or the chance to begin your reading adventure, this celebration promises a joyous time!

Come one, come all—the Summer Reading Adventure begins anew Sunday, June 1. Many folks return to this grand tradition year after year, and we hope that this year’s participants find joy in the challenge it brings. Your journey begins at aurorapubliclibrary.org/sra, or you can call the library at 630-264-4117 where all the details await. We can’t wait to see you Level Up!
