Diabetes Club participating in First Fridays annual “Stolp Block Party”, Aug. 1; Diabetes Club of Fox Valley members provide awareness

The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley members will participate in Aurora’s First Fridays annual “Stolp Block Party”, Friday, Aug. 1.

Stolp Avenue will be closed for the block party between Downer Place and Galena Boulevard, in downtown Aurora.

Stop by our tent, pick up information on prediabetes, diabetes, healthy eating, and our booklet of healthy recipes, plus frisbees for the kids!

It’s a celebration of community, and everyone is welcome. The block party will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m..

Diabetes Club of Fox Valley members will participate in Aurora alderman Carl Franco’s, Fifth Ward National Night Out (NNO), Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Washington Park, 233 Constitution Drive, in Aurora.

The theme for National Night Out: Enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement, while fostering a stronger sense of community! It’s an annual event focused on promoting community safety and building positive relationships between residents and local authorities.

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month! Please mark your calendar to save Friday, November 7, for the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley’s second annual gala dinner, “A Night To End Diabetes”, at the Lincoln Inn, 1345 South Batavia Avenue, in Batavia. Cocktails will be at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:30 p.m..

The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley meets monthly, on the second Wednesday of each month, January through November, at Oak Street Restaurant, 945 Oak Street, in North Aurora. Optional Dinner on members’ own at 5:30 p.m. and meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.. Guests are always welcome!

Members of the Diabetes Club of Fox Valley work together, to provide diabetes awareness in the Fox Valley area, while raising funds to provide aid and education for diabetics, along with investing in research to find a cure.

Know the warning signs of diabetes: The following symptoms are typical, however, some people with type 2 diabetes have symptoms so mild that they go unnoticed.

Common symptoms of diabetes include: Urinating often, feeling very thirsty, feeling very hungry even though you are eating more, extreme fatigue, blurry vision, cuts and bruises that are slow to heal, weight loss even though you are eating more (type 1), and tingling, pain or numbness in your hands or feet (type 2)

Uncontrolled blood sugar (glucose) can cause vision problems, heart problems, nerve damage, dental problems, kidney damage and more.

Eat healthy, stay active and have a yearly blood test, to stay diabetes free!

The Diabetes Club of Fox Valley is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization, a true grassroots organization, where all money raised through dues, donations and fundraising is used locally for the club’s fight against diabetes.
