Aurora University’s Schingoethe Center, in the Hill Welcome Center, 1315 Prairie Street in Aurora, presents “Eye to Eye,” an exhibition showcasing paintings, prints, photos and sculptures by 40 artists to December 11.

Gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.. The public is invited. Admission and parking are free.
An opening reception for Eye to Eye was held Tuesday, Sept. 2. Featured were gallery micro talks by exhibiting artists, scholars, and curators. Presenters were AU history professor Gerald Butters, Ph.D., on “Canada Lee,” a painting by Anne Beadenkopf; Jennifer Scavone, AU art professor and exhibiting artist; Jocelyn Olivera, AU student and exhibiting artist; Jeff Wolin, exhibiting artist; Zachary Bishop, museum manager and registrar, who discussed underground railroad paintings; and Doug Stapleton, art curator, Illinois State Museum.
Schingoethe director Natasha Ritsma said, “This interdisciplinary display, running through Dec. 11, showcases photographs, paintings, prints and sculptures by more than 40 artists from around the world.
“Artists featured were selected because of their extraordinary ability to share stories, information and compelling ideas through their innovative work. The exhibit will showcase new acquisitions the museum has obtained in recent years, works from the Schingoethe Center’s permanent collection and loans from partner museums, galleries, artists and independent collectors.”
According to Ritsma, the center will host artist talks at noon by Vikesh Kapoor Wednesday, Sept. 17 and by Tunnell Handel Tuesday, Oct. 7.
