Mayor of Aurora, John Laesch, honors the Aurora Police Department Crisis Negotiations Team at the Tuesday, Oct. 21 City Council meeting. The team was named the 2025 Negotiations Team of the Year by the Illinois Crisis Negotiators Association. The distinguished honor is for their teamwork during a long and complex incident August 26, 2024. On an extremely hot 94-degree day, negotiators worked side-by-side with patrol officers, special response team, Aurora Fire Department, and many others to overcome language barriers, the extreme heat, and a tense situation involving a woman in crisis on the roof of a building.
