The ACLU of Illinois, Indivisible Batavia Aurora, and Indivisible Illinois will host a community program on the current First Amendment landscape and knowing your rights when protesting Sunday, Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Eola Community Center in Aurora, 555 S Eola Road, Aurora.
This event will explore the state of free speech and protesters’ rights in Illinois and across the country, and highlight how recent legal and political developments could impact our ability to speak out, organize, and demonstrate safely. ACLU staff will lead a Know Your Rights presentation to help community members understand their rights when attending or organizing protests, interacting with law enforcement, or engaging in public advocacy.
The program will also feature remarks from Indivisible Batavia Aurora on their local organizing efforts and opportunities for collective action. Plus, participants will have the opportunity to create solidarity and share their concerns about the critical moment our country is in.
Space is limited for the event, register at https://action.aclu.org/event/power-people-aurora. Light refreshments will be provided.
