Celebrating the holidays, Aurora Area Retired Teachers Association members will make greeting cards for a local charity.

Tuesday, Dec. 2, the 11 a.m. meeting at Lincoln Inn in Batavia will feature holiday card-making for Wayside Cross Ministries’ patrons. AARTA members will sign supplied cards with first names with added short messages optional.

Based in Aurora, Wayside is a bible-centered, non-profit that serves individuals and families facing homelessness, addiction, poverty and despair. Six ministries include residential recovery programs, transitional housing, life-skills training, and spiritual guidance. The organization is dedicated to addressing the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those it serves through its programs.

AARTA president Meg Safarik said, “Let’s put smiles on the faces of people who are by themselves and do not receive cards or presents.”

Other meeting features will include a cookie exchange, charity raffle, fifth annual Christmas craft fair to benefit Fox Valley United Way, Aurora, and winter gear collection of hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, socks, and cash donations to benefit Hesed House homeless shelter, Aurora.
