Honors for Aurora athlete who won State Championship

Mayor of Aurora, John Laesch, honored Addison Miller, an Aurora resident and Oswego East High School student, at the Tuesday, Dec. 9 City Council meeting. Miller proudly represented the City at the state level, winning the Athletes with Disabilities 100-Yard Breaststroke State Championship.

Miller captured the title Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Illinois High School Association’s (IHSA) Girls Swimming and Diving State Finals in Westmont, Ill.. Miller also finished in second place in the 200-Yard Freestyle, 50-Yard Freestyle, and 100-Yard Freestyle.

“This is such a huge accomplishment for Addison,” mayor John Laesch said. “Her hard work and dedication have truly made Aurora proud.”

Miller competed as part of the Oswego East High School and Oswego High School Co-Op Swimming and Diving Team.

“I want to thank my family, friends, and everyone for supporting me,” Miller said. “It took a lot of hard work, but winning the championship was very fun.”

Miller finished second in the Athletes with Disabilities 100-Yard Breaststroke in both 2023 and 2024 before capturing the State Championship in 2025. She also broke a Move United National Swimming Record at the 2024 Hartford Nationals for the 200-Yard Individual Medley as part of the Female 17-and-Under SM8 Division, which pertains to swimmers with physical disabilities.
