Make Kindness Count, build community

The power of kindness can’t be discounted, so this month, KidsMatter invites individuals, families and groups to share acts of goodwill and positivity through the Make Kindness Count campaign.

Throughout all of February, and especially during Random Acts of Kindness Week from February 15 through 20, this annual campaign is collecting stories that illustrate how community members build each other up through kindness. Organized by KidsMatter and the Collaborative Youth Team of Illinois (a coalition of more than 36 youth-serving organizations and agencies), the campaign seeks nominations for the Make Kindness Count Award and brings light to the everyday actions that make our community a kind place to be.

“Intentional kindness goes a long way toward making the world a more positive place,” said Nina Menis, CEO and executive director of KidsMatter. “Choosing to act with kindness releases oxytocin, dopamine and a sense of connection into our brains — making us feel happier, too.”

To submit an act of kindness by yourself or another as a nomination for the Make Kindness Count Award, or to share how you plan to put kindness into action, please use the Make Kindness Count story submission form. The most exemplary stories submitted will be chosen as award recipients and will be recognized and celebrated during the month of March.

Since the beginning of the campaign, more than 2,500 stories, drawings, photos and other examples of kindness have been shared, advancing the goal of celebrating, sharing and amplifying the good.
