Our science says it knows when flowers first evolved;
But there are many questions which must be resolved.
“Evolved from what?” is the first question we must ask.
You can’t evolve from nothing, (taking science to task).
In Nature, everything is functional, bar none;
So what were flowers for, at first, when said and done?
And how did each decide how best to sow its seed?
Including foreign agents to supply the need.
Then prehistoric tombs have flowers on display;
So flowers were then used in a distinctive way.
And this: so which came first, the flower or the bee?
Or those confined to climate, mountain, desert, sea?
That brings us back to the first one—evolved from what?
And for what purpose? Decoration, like as not?
So here we have the flowers—giving all a lift;
How easy to suggest it reasons as a gift!
