Mayor of Aurora, John Laesch honored 11-year-old Aurora resident Jakoi Ruff, at Tuesday, Feb. 10 night’s City Council meeting. Ruff, set a national record at the 2025 AAU Northern Indoor National Track & Field Invitational, which took place December 27 and 28, 2025 at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track & Field Center in Chicago.

Ruff, a member of the Aurora Sundowners Track Club, brought home three gold medals at the Invitational, plus set the national 11U 60-meter dash record, finishing with a time of just 8.04 seconds! He also secured first place in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes, earning the Track MVP Award.
“Jakoi has truly made Aurora proud,” mayor John Laesch said. “We are excited to have you here tonight to honor you and recognize this historic achievement.”
Ruff is currently a sixth-grade student at Jewel Middle School and currently ranks 17th in the country for the 200-meter dash in his age bracket.
