State representative Stephanie Kifowit (D–Oswego), released the following statement in response to governor JB Pritzker’s State of the State and Budget Address:
“Governor Pritzker’s address highlighted the continued progress Illinois has made and the importance of maintaining fiscal responsibility while investing in the priorities that matter most to families and local communities.
Residents throughout the communities I represent, including Aurora, Montgomery, Naperville, and Oswego, care deeply about economic stability, strong schools, safe communities, and responsible government. The budget framework must continue supporting these shared goals while addressing the financial pressures many households face.
One of the most urgent concerns for families in our region remains the burden of property taxes. Property tax relief must remain central to our fiscal discussions, and that requires sustained State support for education and local governments. When the State meets its obligations, it reduces pressure on local taxpayers and helps create long-term affordability for homeowners.
Equally important is ensuring the long-term stability of Illinois’ pension systems. Protecting pension commitments while strengthening the State’s financial footing is critical not only for retirees who earned those benefits, but for taxpayers and the overall health of our budget. Responsible, sustainable solutions must remain a priority as we continue building Illinois’ fiscal future.
Illinois has made meaningful strides in improving its financial position, and it is essential that we continue on a path that promotes growth, stability, and fairness. I look forward to working with my colleagues to advance a responsible budget that supports our communities, provides relief for taxpayers, and upholds the commitments that keep our State moving forward.”
