Celebrate all things maple at the Forest Preserve District of Kane County’s Maple Sugaring Days, March 7-8, from noon to 3 p.m. at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W700 Dean St., St. Charles.

No registration is required for Maple Sugaring Days and admission is free.

Watch Forest Preserve naturalists demonstrate how to tap a maple tree, then try drilling and setting your own tap. See sap simmer over an open fire, as it thickens to syrup, and learn about the history of maple sugaring. Don’t forget to visit the Maple Café for a variety of treats, including maple donuts, maple-drizzled frozen custard and cozy, hot beverages.

Back by popular demand, Riverlands Brewing Company will return with an exclusive brown ale, Maple River, brewed in collaboration with the Kane Forest Preserve Foundation. The craft brew features locally-sourced maple syrup from Driftless Gold, located just across the Wisconsin border. Syrup will be available for purchase, while supplies last. A portion of the proceeds will benefit nature education and other initiatives supported by the Kane Forest Preserve Foundation.
