Dear editor;

As we cannot tolerate another rogue nation like North Korea, I agree with president Donald Trump that Iran’s nuclear arsenal needs to be destroyed.

When doing so, however, he needs to review the lessons learned from other leaders who caused needless carnage and loss of lives by not having a realistic end state.

It is now time for the president to set aside his ego and take a back seat. As we cannot afford another failed cause, Israel now needs to take the lead in dismantling Iran’s nuclear arsenal.

Iran may have a larger army and missile arsenal, but Israel holds a stronger military edge bolstered by better technology, U.S. support, and its air defense systems. Our president needs to take heed from lessons learned by generals Eisenhower and MacArthur who said, “I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity.”

“The soldier above all others prays for peace, for it is the soldier who must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war.”
