Evan Knigge, a Boy Scout with New England Congregational Church Troop 3 of Aurora, will complete his Eagle Scout Service Project on Saturday, June 13, at 9 a.m. at Mutual Ground, 418 Oak Ave, Aurora, an emergency shelter serving individuals and families impacted by violence.

The project is part of Evan’s journey toward earning the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Scouting. Through his leadership, volunteers will construct raised flower and vegetable garden beds for the residents of Mutual Ground. The gardens will provide opportunities for residents to grow flowers, vegetables, and herbs while creating a welcoming outdoor space for families.

“I chose this project because I want to help people and make an impact on the community,” said Evan.

The project has received support from a local business, A-1 Landscaping of Aurora, which is generously donating the soil needed for the garden beds.

If you have a child (age 11-17) who wants to learn more about Scouting, contact New England Congregational Church Troop 3 by email auroratroop3@gmail.com. Meetings are held Monday evenings.

Troop 3, founded in 1910, is one of the oldest continuously operating Scout troops in Illinois. As part of the Eagle Scout process, candidates must plan, organize, and lead a significant community service project that benefits a nonprofit organization.
