Executive director of Plum Landing, Alex Haughee, left, presents Dexter McWilliams with a scholarship for $1,000. McWilliams is a kitchen staff member at Plum Landing and an Aurora native. Dexter, a first-generation college student, will enter the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign this fall, majoring in Psychology with minors in Data Science and Statistics. Plum Landing, founded in 1962 by educator Ida Mighell in honor of her sister Jessie, has long been a home for retired teachers and lifelong learners. In 2022, the community established the Jessie Mighell Scholarship Fund, offering staff members $1,000 toward continuing their education.Plum Landing photo
