Nordic-themed arts, crafts, food, entertainment and activities for all ages will be offered at the 46th annual Scandinavian Day Festival Sunday, Sept. 13.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Vasa Park, 35W217 Rt. 31 in S. Elgin. Admission is $15 for adults, free for 12 and under. Parking is free.
The festival kicks off with an outdoor church service at 10:30 a.m.. An opening ceremony and welcome will be at 11:30 a.m..
Children’s activities include free pony rides and face painting. Other features will be Scandinavian food, a vendor walkway, story time by Elsa and entertainment by Libido Funk Circus, Bert & Lindy, Nordic Folk Dancers of Chicago and Leikarringen Heimhug Dancers. A bonfire will close the event.
Members of Montgomery-based Sons of Norway Polar Star Lodge 5-472 will return with their Norsk bakeri and lLoppemarked booth. It will feature homemade traditional baked goods and on site Norwegian vafler.
Ken Johnson of Yorkville, Polar Star president, will offer a wide variety of Norwegian flea-market items for sale. The fest is Polar Star’s annual fundraising event and replaces a September lodge meeting.
