The District 131 Board of Education and administration were made aware of the federal indictment involving Board of Education member Annette Johnson. Initial review of the indictment reflects serious allegations related to the District’s 2021 purchase of air purifiers.

While the allegations made against Ms Johnson are incredibly serious and concerning, Ms Johnson, like all other defendants, is entitled to a presumption of innocence. Notably, the indictment does not name any other current District 131 Board of Education member, administrator or employee as a co-defendant.

The District has and will continue to fully cooperate with the authorities in any continued investigation of these matters.

Our teachers, administrators, and staff remain focused on educating, supporting and serving our students each day.

Any additional questions about these federal charges should be directed to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois. At this time, the District will not provide further comment on the matter.
