Mid-season high school basketball in recent years is filled with games and tournaments over the three-day weekend break for Martin Luther King holiday. It is a high school basketball junkie’s dream. Games are wall-to-wall. It is nearly as packed as the Christmas holiday basketball tournaments.
Wheaton-Warrenville South, Geneva, Oswego, and Burlington Central are some of the sites for basketball, many all-day events. One site stands out this year for Aurora area fans, which will be played one day, Monday, at one site, Timothy Christian High School in Elmhurst.
There will be four games, starting at 1:30 p.m. to include Parkview Christian, Aurora Christian, and Blackhawk Christian in Ft. Wayne, Ind.. The pivotal point is Aurora Christian High School. Marian Catholic is one of the top teams in the Chicago area. Naperville North is a quality team with an 11-6 overall record. Aurora Christian is a highly-ranked team.
• John Parpet is the new head football coach at Metea Valley, an Aurora school and a member of the DuPage Valley Conference. He helped Lisle to a conference championship last season.
• Brian Johnson, boys basketball head coach at West Aurora, on the 57-26 victory over Glenbard South Friday: “That was our best defensive effort of the season. We have put a point of emphasis on defense for the past month and it was the culmination. We caused a lot of turnovers.”
