Aurora Police have secured numerous charges through the Kane County State’s Attorney on a 25-year-old Aurora woman who was seen on video dragging a five-year-old boy by the hair inside an Aurora hospital’s emergency room waiting area on Monday, Jan. 14.

Tanye M. McNeal of the 1200 block of Second Avenue is charged with three felony counts of aggravated battery and three misdemeanor counts of domestic battery in connection with the incident that occurred around 4:40 p.m. at Rush Copley Medical Center in the 2000 block of Ogden Avenue. She will appear in bond court today, Thursday, Jan. 17.

The alleged abuse was videotaped by a 28-year-old Wisconsin woman who also called 911 to summon us to the facility. The State’s Attorney, DCFS and medical professionals all worked with us on the ensuing investigation, which is continuing, and McNeal was taken into custody at Aurora Police Headquarters Wednesday afternoon, January 16. Prior to dragging the boy by his hair, charging documents indicate that McNeal held the five-year-old down in a chair while pinching his neck which caused bruising. The victim and another two-year-old boy, both of whom are relatives of McNeal, were placed with a relative the evening of the incident.

The charges are not proof of guilt. McNeal is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which it is the burden of the State to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
