Kyle Busch was trying for a trifecta this weekend at his home track in Las Vegas, Nev.. Kyle won the Friday night NASCAR Gander Outdoor Truck race and Saturday’s Xfinity race in the new Joe Gibbs Toyota Supra. However, Kyle Busch had to settle for third place when Joey Logano took first place, followed by Brad Keselowski. Kevin Harvick finished in fourth and Kurt Busch in fifth.
Harvick had the fastest car at the start of the race and won the pole position. He took the first segment victory with a more-than four second lead.
Kyle Busch was in the hunt, but he drove in to the pits too fast and never recovered from the penalty.
The race was pretty much accident-free with Logano the victor for the second stage over Harvick.
In the final segment in a late race restart, with help from teammate Keselowski, Logano took the lead and held it for the victory.
There were complaints from the drivers about the handling of the 2019 aerodynamic package and the reduced horsepower for the non-restrictor tracks this year.
NASCAR Monster Energy series, Folds of Honor Quiktrip 500, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Atlanta, Ga., Sunday, Feb. 24.
Despite battling fellow racers and a bout with the flu, Keselowski won the race followed closely in second by Martin Truex, Jr.. In third place was Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick was in fourth, and Clint Bowyer in fifth.
The pole position was won by Aric Almirola, but the first lap was led by Ricky Stenhouse, Jr..
Keselowski in the final stage took the lead with 70 laps to go.
On the final lap Truex, Jr. narrowed the gap to less than one quarter of a second, however, Keselowski stayed ahead and took the checkered flag.
Kyle Busch admirably fought back from being a lap down to finish in sixth place.
