Brook McDonald, CEO of The Conservation Foundation, answers questions about the Fox River Monday from members of the Rotary Club of Aurora.
The Foundation preserves and restores natural areas and open space, protects rivers and watersheds, and promotes stewardship of our environment.
McDonald shared information about the book, “A Fox River Testimony” which shows 73 original paintings by Joel Sheesley. He spent two years travelling up and down the Fox River from West Dundee south to Ottawa, to capture all of its moods, meanders, and seasons, on canvas.
McDonald answered questions about the health of the Fox River, including the dams. He said dam-removal is needed because the worst water quality is behind the dams. Ecologically, they are barriers which impede fish from going upstream to reproduce.
