Happy 2025 from APLD! Are you setting a new year resolution? As we step into 2025, many people will make resolutions as promises to improve themselves and their lives. Whether you’re aiming to get your finances in order, learn a new language, or unleash your creative potential, the Aurora Public Library District (APLD) offers free access to an impressive selection of online and in-person resources that can help you achieve your goals. Here are some of our top picks to make this year your most productive yet!
Want to take control of your finances in 2025? APLD provides access to Morningstar and Value Line, two powerful tools for personal finance and investment research. Morningstar offers comprehensive insights into stocks, mutual funds, and other investments, while Value Line provides detailed analysis and ratings to guide your financial decisions. These resources are perfect for both beginners and seasoned investors looking to build wealth and achieve financial stability. For personalized help, set up an appointment with our dedicated business and career services librarian, Chris Biersdorf. “It is my responsibility to help you access accurate, reliable, and up-to-date financial literacy information,” said Biersdorf. “I can also connect customers with other organizations in the community, including workNet Batavia and the Financial Empowerment Center, who can further help customers develop their financial literacy skills.”
If mastering a new language is on your list, Mango Languages is the perfect starting point. This interactive platform offers lessons in over 70 languages, including Portuguese, French, and Japanese. Mango uses real-world conversations, pronunciation guidance, and cultural insights to make language learning engaging and effective. Best of all, it’s free with your APLD library card, so you can learn at your own pace, anytime and anywhere. Additionally, if you’re looking to learn or improve your Spanish language skills, the Santori Library hosts a monthly Spanish Basics program that covers basic introductions and common phrases in Spanish. Exploring a new language has never been more accessible or enjoyable!
In today’s busy world, finding time for creativity can be challenging, but it’s worth the effort—it boosts mental health, enhances problem-solving skills, and provides a valuable outlet for self-expression to navigate life’s challenges more effectively. Let Creativebug be your gateway to endless inspiration! This database features thousands of video tutorials on arts and crafts, including painting, knitting, photography, and more. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, Creativebug’s step-by-step instructions and expert-led workshops will help you bring your creative visions to life. “Many of the instructors provide templates and patterns that are free to download as part of their tutorials,” said librarian and Creativebug user Megan Cavitt. “I’ve gotten free Cricut designs that I uploaded directly into DesignSpace (Cricut’s design software), which allowed me to make some fun new projects with the library’s Cricut machine (available in the Makerspace).” With APLD, you have everything you need to spark your creativity and turn ideas into amazing projects.
Getting started with any of our databases is easy.
