With the annual Newspaper Week next week we should have a salute to and reference to functions of a community newspaper. We have the experience of tight space and do not have to float photos and articles. We leave out many relevant items we would and should include. With that in mind, look below for photos with more information listed below.

Fourth-generation restaurateur Amy Morton presents information about her new restaurant at the Aurora Committee of the Whole meeting, Tuesday, at City Hall. She is still waiting to reveal the name of the restaurant, set to have a soft opening October 31 – November 2. The site is adjacent to and west of the Paramount Theatre in downtown Aurora. Amy Morton is the daughter of Arnie Morton of the well-known Morton’s The Steakhouse chain. Consent was given to a resolution authorizing the purchase of security system hardware, software, installation, and annual maintenance services from CDW-G Corporation of Vernon Hills under a National IPA purchasing agreement for an amount not to exceed $1,825,209. The system will be used for City government facilities.

• The name remained unknown, however, Amy Morton was excited to talk a few minutes at the Committee of Whole about the restaurant she will open November 3 following a soft opening October 31-November 2 adjacent to and west of the Paramount Theatre in downtown Aurora. “(The restaurant) will be a seasonal kitchen and steak house,” she said. “We want to have an authentic feel. I have two restaurants in Evanston (where she lives), however the management team is from Aurora. We will have a large cross-section of food. We will open during Paramount times in the afternoons Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday for lunch and have a late brunch Sunday. She is a fourth-generation restauranteur family member.

• The Aurora Poet Laureate (see above) position applications in reference at the Aurora Mayor’s Media Briefing Tuesday, can be completed in one of three ways: Online at www.aurora-il.org/AuroraPoetLaureate; E-mail application in electronic form by preparing a PDF (Portable Document Format) which contains applicant’s responses, number to match each question application. The application can be sent by E-mail to mayorsoffice@aurora-il.org; delivered by mail, or, in person, to: Mayor Richard C. Irvin’s Office, Aurora City Hall, 44 E. Downer Place, Aurora, IL 60507. The deadline is October 15. Finalists will be invited for a personal interview and poetry-reading, between October 22 and October 29. A final selection will be announced Tuesday, Nov. 5. No application will be considered if received after October 15. Application packets will not be returned.

• State representative Barbara Hernandez, Aurora, is taking action to collect feminine hygiene products to donate to Mutual Ground an intervention center in Aurora. • Water Street Studios in Batavia named Doug Grier director of art education and outreach programs both on-site and in the community. Most recently he served as the dean for community education at Waubonsee Community College, 2008-2018.
