Today, alderman Ted Mesiacos (Ward 3) formally announced his campaign to serve as mayor of Aurora.
Ted Mesiacos is a devoted father of two, alderman, architect, small business owner, civil servant, 2nd generation immigrant, and native Auroran running for mayor.
Mesiacos said:
“It’s an honor of a lifetime to run for mayor of Aurora. Here in Aurora, we have neighbors of every race, religion, ideology, and country of origin. We may each have our own unique story, but together, we are Aurora.”
Mesiacos was born in Aurora to two working-class parents who immigrated to Aurora from Greece. His Mom was a proud member of the seamstress union and his Dad was a machinist, who still found time to volunteer to help other immigrants find housing and work. After his Mom passed away when he was young, Ted was taught by his Dad the values of service & hard-work – values that drove him to serve as an alderman for Aurora, where he was one of the only aldermen to vote against the current mayor’s property tax increase.
As an adult, Mesiacos opened his own small business – an architectural firm – and built a home in the community where he grew up, where he currently lives with his wife – a school teacher – and their two wonderful kids.
Mesiacos is in his third term as an alderman for Aurora’s 3rd Ward. He has been honored to serve on the Aurora Planning Commission, the Aurora Zoning Board of Appeals, the Noon Rotary Club of Aurora, the Fermilab Community Advisory Board and as a member of Congressman Bill Foster’s Immigration Advisory Committee, and on the Board of Directors with the Upper Illinois River Valley Development Authority.
Mesiacos said:
“Aurora’s leadership has lost its way. Instead of being focused on making our communities affordable and safer, they’ve been focused on their own interests – whether it’s an ambitious political career or lining their own pockets. As your mayor, I pledge to prioritize you – your needs, your neighbors, and your family. You won’t see me on the TV more often than you’ll see me on your street and in your community.”
As mayor, Mesiacos plans to prioritize development that benefits every neighborhood. As the son of a single Dad, he knows how tough it is to make ends meet and will not stop fighting as mayor to make life more affordable for every resident of Aurora.
In the days to come, Mesiacos will hold an in-person event to kickoff his campaign on September 18th at 6 p.m. at 1 E. Benton Street. More details to follow.
