Ambassador Reyna Torres Mendivil, the Consul General of Mexico in Chicago, was well-received during her first visit to Aurora Monday, Nov. 29.
“Wow, Aurora really knows how to make you feel at home,” said the ambassador. “I love the diversity and the energy and how beautiful and organized everything is.”
Ward 2 alderwoman Juany Garza invited the Consul General Torres Mendivil to Aurora to meet with leaders of Aurora’s Mexican community to discuss strengthening the partnership of the Mexican Consulate’s presence in Aurora.
A reception was held at Aurora City Hall, where mayor Richard Irvin and deputy mayor Guillermo Trujillo welcomed ambassador Reyna Torres Mendivil. The ambassador and the alderwoman exchanged flags as a sign of continued collaborations.
During the reception, several community advocates were honored for their collective efforts in making the 2021 Dia de Los Muertos Celebration in downtown Aurora a tremendous success. Receiving an Aurora Award of Excellence were: Marissa Amoni, Jose Art, Nora Becerra, Mario Cruz, Clara Diaz, Alejandra Luis Galzak, Jorge Gutierrez, Martin Martinez, Noelia Ruiz and Jose Torres.
