It’s that time of year again! The Aurora Public Library District (APLD) is gearing up to start the 2022 Winter Reading Adventure. Grab your hot cocoa and settle in because how you participate in this year’s program is totally up to you. We encourage you to enjoy time with your family, learn more about the world around you, and unlock new resources with your Library card . The purpose of the Winter Reading Adventure is to have fun and the fun begins January 1, 2022!
Though it’s called the Winter Reading Adventure, it is much more than just reading. Participants choose activities from a list to earn prizes. It will allow for more flexibility and inclusivity. Senior manager of Children Services, Dana Russell, explains the program structure, “A couple of years ago, the program was changed to an activities-based program to make it a more inclusive opportunity that allows anyone to participate. So, if you aren’t a big reader but still would like to participate in the program, there are activities that you can do.” But don’t worry if you are a big reader, the program still has activity choices for you, too!
Examples of activity choices include making a craft, reading in a to snuggle, and learning about a holiday or tradition that is new to you. You can repeat your favorite activities, or challenge yourself to complete them all! Some can be completed at home while others require a visit to the Library. Participants who complete at least 10 activities will receive a prize. The activity choices make the Winter Reading Adventure suitable for all ages. Anyone from birth through adult can participate in the program. You can participate on your own or families can complete activities together.
To get started, you will need a Winter Reading Adventure activity sheet. Paper copies will be available at all service desks in English and Spanish. You may request to have one included in your next curb-side/drive through pickup as the Library continues to offer curb-side services at all locations, or you can visit aurorapubliclibrary.org/wra and participate online.
This Winter, the Aurora Public Library District hopes you will participate in our Winter Reading Adventure by using Library materials and services to have fun, try something new, and learn more about the world around you! The program will begin January 1, 2022 and end January 30, 2022.
