Saturday was just another day at the office for Wheaton College quarterback, Luke Anthony. The sophomore who played for Wheaton North High School completed 18 of 25 passes for 265 yards and five touchdowns. Wheaton College defeated Central College (Ia.), 49-13, in the second round of NCAA Division III playoffs to improve to a 12-0 overall record.

“It was great to make some plays,” said Anthony. Wheaton will be host to St. Johns University of Minnesota at noon Saturday.

Josh Mayhew who was graduated from West Aurora High School in 2016, is a sophomore at Central College in Pella, Iowa.

“I am enjoying my stay at Central,” said the 6-1 and 260-pound guard.

“They had some mighty big linemen and the caused a lot of trouble for us,” Mayhew said.

“We had a lot of fun today,” said Anthony. “The receivers did a great job.”

Anthony started his college career at the University of Dayton. He spent one year in high school with former Northwestern University Division I Wildcat quarterback Claton Thorsen. “I was a freshman his senior year,” said Anthony. “Clayton was a special guy. He was like a best friend.”

Wheaton bolted out of the gate to score 35 points in the first quarter.

Anthony completed three of his five touchdown passes in the opening period. Wheaton rolled up 239 of 474 yards in the first quarter.

Mayhew played for the West Aurora Upstate Eight Conference championship team his senior year.

“We were undefeated and we played Maine South and we fell short,” he said about the first round of the playoffs.

Despite the loss, Mayhew is quite happy playing for Central.

“I think our team has shown improvement. I have two more years to play and I think we will get a lot better.”
