The Aurora Public Library District (APLD) is committed to empowering families through programs and resources that foster learning, strengthen connections, and draw on community support. This month we are holding our second annual Homeschool Book Swap and Info Panel Friday, June 27, at the Santori Library to help with that effort. It’s an event designed to bring families together, share valuable resources, and celebrate the vibrant homeschool community in Aurora.

From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., attendees will have the opportunity to browse, swap, and take home books and materials to support their homeschool curriculum, completely free of charge! The inspiration behind the event came from listening to local families. “I’ve been asked by many customers who are considering homeschooling if I can recommend curriculum materials, online classes, books, etc.,” explained Library assistant Stefanie. “I thought, hey, let’s all swap materials instead of everyone buying new!” If you’re just building your curriculum or seeking a fresh spark, there is sure to be something available to give you the help you need.

The highlight of the afternoon will be the Information Panel at 2 p.m., where seasoned homeschooling parents will offer insights, tips, and answer questions to support families at every stage of their homeschool experience. “We have such a great homeschool community in the Aurora area and it continues to grow!” said Stefanie. “It is important that people who have chosen a schooling alternative feel welcomed and embraced by their local library.”

Our event expands further with crafts and snacks for kids, a special tween activity table, and giveaways to make the day fun for the whole family! A variety of community partners will be on site to showcase opportunities in STEM, sports, music, art, and more—all tailored to enrich the homeschooling experience. APLD staff will also provide tutorials on using our online resources and go over the information on our dedicated homeschool webpage, which includes monthly programs, book clubs, quarterly newsletters, and more! With so much to see and do, this event is the perfect opportunity to learn all about what APLD has to offer.

Whether you’re looking for guidance, inspiration, or just some free materials, visit the Santori Library Friday, June 27 between 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and come discover the possibilities for your homeschool family! Gently used curriculum materials can be dropped off in advance at the Santori Library Children’s Desk or brought with you on the day of the event to swap.
