Arrest of 12-year-old with a gun at Plank Junior High School, Oswego.

On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Oswego Police arrested a 12-year-old female juvenile for possession of an unloaded firearm at Plank Junior High School, 510 Secretariat Lane, Oswego.

At approximately 1:13 p.m., Oswego Police were notified by school staff that a student had been observed with a firearm. Police immediately responded and recovered an unloaded firearm in the possession of a 12-year-old student. The school had initiated a Hold-in-Place, which was lifted after approximately one hour. The student was taken into custody and multiple charges arising from having an unloaded firearm on school grounds were approved by the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office: one felony count of Disorderly Conduct, one misdemeanor count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and one misdemeanor count of Unauthorized Storage/Possession of a Weapon. The juvenile was brought to the Oswego Police Department where she was processed and transported to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center to await a hearing.
