Grandpa,
Nice things some have done during the pandemic? How about cute things? Because of my line of work, I have been putting in a lot of overtime. With that, I have been too stressed to get much rest. One morning I came in from a very difficult night at work and found a plate of cookies and a glass of milk on the table. My wife told me that our six-year-old asked if he could put them out for The Sand Man. His logic was that he puts it out for Santa and Santa always comes with gifts, so he wants the sandman to come and let daddy get some sleep.
Grandpa says: Precocious! That boy will grow up to be a politician.
Grandpa,
I live near the state line. The closest grocery store is (on the other side of the line), so I go there to shop. Last Saturday I forgot to take my face mask when I went. I did not realize it until I was walking from my car into the store. The sign on the door reminded me. I turned and was walking back to my car when a lady stopped me and asked if I needed a mask. She went into her purse and pulled out a disposable one. I offered to pay for it and she told me it is a gift. I just want to thank her for that act of kindness.
Grandpa,
It was an unexpected act of kindness! I went to pick up my cleaning at (Sorry, Grandpa does not mention merchants by name). The bill was less than usual. The (clerk) told me they are not charging for doing the nursing uniforms!
Grandpa,
I think this virus is weakening. Either that or the rules are getting more relaxed. In May, when my baby was born, I was not allowed in the delivery room with my wife. This past week my brother was in the hospital for a hernia surgery. I was allowed in to visit with him. To me that is a good sign of hope.
Grandpa,
I want to thank the pantry for the inclusion of hand sanitizer and antibacterial hand soap in the food packages that we have been getting.
Grandpa,
Some of the rules about this virus are silly. I went through the drive through to get lunch. I had to put the money into a cup, got my change back in a cup and the food was delivered to me in a paper bag that was on a tray. But the person preparing the food still had to have handled it! How silly.
Grandpa says: Can you believe how quickly 2020 has gone by? It is time again for Grandpa to beg your indulgence. Every Autumn I ask my readers to reflect on what is in their lives for which they are thankful. This year we will publish Thanksgiving Gratitude letters November 19, one week before Thanksgiving Day. In order to have your letter included in the Gratitude Column, please have your letters to Ask Grandpa in by November 1.
