Every month in the sports world has its distinctive design. In August we understand the football season is on the horizon with preparations, the baseball season offers approaching pennant races, and Summer activities such as golf and tennis offer timely tournaments.
Hopes for Big Ten Conference football success revolve around the University of Illinois and Northwestern University, both of which seek greater success than last season. Below, The Voice begins schedule listings of college football teams of interest in our northern Illinois circulation. We will have all divisions, from Big Ten to Division III teams. That declared, we understand there are many fans of other schools in the State, especially when the top teams struggle to surpass .500 records. There are many University of Michigan, Ohio State, and other Big Ten fans as our neighbors. Notre Dame has drawn football interest for 100 years and will continue. The school based in South Bend, Ind. draws part of our schedule listings, even though there is a fans base which completely disdains Fighting Irish success. We understand to each our own.
Baseball: What new players will be drawn to the Chicago Cubs, who successfully have stayed away from the cellar of the National League Central this year, thus far, and may have the experience of new players the rest of the season. Can we expect a September division race?
High School sports will begin their Autumn practice sessions, Monday, Aug. 8. From football thorough cross country, communities are interested, thankfully.
