The City of Aurora government’s Animal Care and Control Division set a record transfer rate in 2025, helping 630 animals find new homes through a partnership with the Aurora Animal Rescue Network.
The total number of transfers surpassed 2024’s total by 90 animals, further establishing Aurora Animal Care and Control’s mission to free up kennel space, reduce animal stress, and help facilitate permanent animal placement.
“We are very thankful for our rescue partners, as they’ve helped save lives here in Aurora,” Animal Control manager Kameron DeBoer said. “We are looking forward to building off this momentum in 2026, ensuring that more animals are able to find forever homes.”
Animal transfers have nearly doubled for Aurora Animal Care and Control since 2021. This has led to more dogs and cats being adopted throughout the area.
In addition to steadily increasing transfer rates this year, Aurora Animal Care and Control continues in its mission to promote positive pet ownership and ensure safe interactions between people and animals through free microchipping.
Adoption hours run from noon to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday, at 712 S. River Street. To view four-legged pals who are ready and willing to join your home, visit https://animalcontrol.aurora.il.us.
