The Aurora-area branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) has reached a milestone, its 100th Anniversary. To celebrate the occasion, members and guests, will enjoy a luncheon at the Aurora Country Club, 1548 Prairie Street, Saturday, Sept. 21, with check-in at 11:30 a.m., followed by the meal; an address by the Illinois AAUW president, Jennifer Urish; and remarks from long-time branch members. Artifacts and many displays will round out some of the organization’s history. To join us on the occasion, contact Andi Danis, danishouse@sbcglobal.net, or call 630-892-6366. The cost is $40.
It will be a chance to learn more about how AAUW has been empowering women and girls since its inception in 1881. The mission is “to advance gender equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy,” with these goals being implemented through education, workshops, lobbying, scholarships, travel, conventions, legal assistance, and training. Membership is diverse and equitable.
