In honor of some of the eldest and youngest members of the Aurora community, the city government of Aurora will be host to a special birthday party to celebrate those who are 100-plus years and those who have celebrated their first birthdays this past year.
Mayor Richard C. Irvin’s Annual 1 & 100 Birthday Party will honor Aurorans celebrating their one-century birthdays and their one-year birthdays. It will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at the Prisco Community Center, 150 W. Illinois Avenue. The celebration will include cake, balloons, photos, activities, and special gifts for the guests of honor.
“It was such a joy last year to watch our centenarians and babies celebrate together with smiles and laughter,” said mayor Irvin. “Throughout the year we’ve been able to celebrate additional milestones with those same centenarians and have received photo updates from parents of the babies. I’m looking forward to this year’s celebration.”
Working with some of Aurora’s senior living facilities, a group of centenarians has been gathered which will be honored and is asking the public to submit other individuals who have or will turn, 100 years or more at any time since last Summer.
Parents of children with first birthdays between August 1, 2017 and August 15 this year, are invited to attend the birthday celebration. Children celebrating first birthdays for the remainder of the year will be honored at the 2019 party.
To register a centenarian or a one-year old, visit www.aurora-il.org/HappyBirthday and complete the registration by Monday, Aug. 20. Space is limited.
