Michaela Haberkern, executive director of the Aurora Public Library (APL), explains to Aurora City Council members the benefit of the Library to become an independent district, Tuesday, at the Aurora Committee of the Whole meeting. The APL asked the City administration to pass a resolution to provide funds for the Library at a level for a move to a district format. The move is expected to increase the tax levy. It was reported that the increase would be $35 for a median house in Aurora valued at $217,000. John Savage, center, president of the APL Board, said the law reads, if a library board approves moving to a district, and the City Council approves moving to a district, there is no need for a referendum.
Discussed was the April 30, 2020 deadline for Aurora businesses to register in the Aurora Business Registration Program. The program will be a data-gathering system that captures public safety data elements, identified by staff members accessible when needed for provision of city services. Registration is free, and penalty for non-compliance. Martin Lyons, left, is the Aurora administration chief financial officer. Jason Crane/The Voice
