The Aurora City Council honors the 2018 Boys Baseball of Aurora Major League champions, the Aurora Police team, above, Tuesday at the City Council meeting.
• Honored was the inaugural Aurora Youth Council for its community participation (Click here to see photo). Alex Perez, former city of Aurora government employee and current West Aurora School District spokesman, received a Mayoral Commendation for being the top winner of the NextGen Public Service Award for superior public service and achievement.
• Approved was $54,118.75 to United Rent-A-Fence for parade fencing services for the 2018 events season to improve safety at all parade events. The city government of Aurora will post a formal bid for the 2019 event season.
• Approved was the West Aurora Campus plan description for the property east of Reimer Drive, between West Galena Boulevard and Downer Place. The property is the former Dreyer Medical Clinic Campus. City of Aurora documents state in November 2016 the West Aurora School District acquired this property through a three-party agreement involving the Dreyer Medical Clinic, the West Aurora School District, and the city of Aurora government. The details of the request include the reuse of the existing 31,858 square-foot building for the District’s Learning Center which is along West Galena Boulevard. The Learning Center will house the School District’s Success Academy, Transition Program, early Childhood Program, Pathways to Prosperity, and its District assessment clinic for incoming early learning students. It will house administrative offices, dining and food preparation area, and multi-purpose rooms for training as well as babysitting space.
• Approved was authorization to purchase and install landscaping for Fire Station 7 in the amount of $85,721 from Twin Oaks Landscaping of Oswego and R. C. Wegman Construction Company of Aurora.
