Aurora City Council recognizes Aurora youth for their military enlistments

Twenty-seven students receive plaques and inaugural Aurora medals of honor Tuesday at the Aurora City Council meeting at the Copley Theatre in Aurora for their military enlistments. Seven each enlisted into the U.S. Army, U.S. Marines, and National Guard. Four have joined the U.S. Navy and two will be in the U.S. Air Force. Students, their schools, and branches of service, not in order in the photo, include, Aurora Central Catholic: Brennan Hare, U.S. Navy; Therese Hein, U.S Air Force; Jonathan Mattas, U.S. Army National Guard; East Aurora High School: Ruben Barajas, Jr., U.S. Marine Corps; Eric Diaz, U.S. Army; Alejandro Gallardo, U.S. Marine Corps; Leon Knight, U.S. Navy; Andrea Leon-Alvarado, U.S. Army National Guard; Jerry Llanos, U.S. Army National Guard; Joaquin Miranda, U.S. Army; Omar Pardo, U.S. Army National Guard; Marmion: Mark Fillar, U.S. Army National Guard; Thomas Grayczyk, U.S. Marine Corps; Metea Valley: Matthew Davis, U.S. Marine Corps; Antonio Matos, U.S. Marine Corps; Alex Shabaz, U.S. Marine Corps; Rosary: Mackenzie Adkins, U.S. Air Force; West Aurora: Rafael Barraza, U.S. Army; Rogelio Cervantes, U.S. Army National Guard; Joseph Chacon, U.S. Army National Guard; Noah King, U.S. Marine Corps; Leslie Quinones, U.S. Army; Bradley Ramos, U.S. Navy; Andrew Smithburg, U.S. Army; Waubonsie Valley: Andrew Colin, U.S. Navy; Collin Hall, U.S. Army Reserves; Raegan Woolwine, U.S. Army. The Aurora City Council meeting was moved from City Hall to Copley Theatre because a gas leak earlier in the day blocked access to the building.
