Mayor Richard Irvin will appoint a current Ward 7 resident to fill the vacancy on the Aurora City Council due to the passing of alderwoman Scheketa Hart-Burns.
By ordinance, the mayor appoints the alderman who fills the vacancy and serves the remainder of the four-year term until the next general municipal election in April 2025.
The appointee must be:
- at least 18 years old
- a registered voter of Ward 7
- a current resident of Ward 7 for at least one year
To apply, interested residents must complete an online application at www.aurora-il.org/Ward7Appointee.
• The application period is open until 5 p.m., Friday, July 21.
• After the application window has closed, the Mayor’s Office will review applications and conduct interviews with select candidates before forwarding the mayor’s recommended appointee to the Aurora City Council.
• The Aurora City Council is expected to vote on the recommended appointee at the regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, August 8.
