A Mural Painting Q&A information booth will be held Sunday, Sept. 22, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the LaSalle Street Auto Show in downtown Aurora. The new “Heritage Market Mural” at 83 S. LaSalle, is just 1½ blocks east of the Aurora Farmers Market’s downtown location on Water Street. The mural site is on the historic Pierpont Grocery building, home to Calla Lily Victorian Tea Room. Mural project leaders Rebekah Axtell and Joshua Schultz invite the community to come learn about the mural-making process and hear stories that inspired the work. Helpful information for persons interested in developing future mural projects will be available. The Heritage Market Mural was made possible by a grant from Aurora’s Public Art Commission in Fall 2017. Building owner Tony Nicolas and restoration managers Virginia and Ron Potter accommodated mural production during building restoration. Two rounds of work were August 2018 to November 2018 and June 2019 to August 2019. Many community members shared ideas, time and talents. The Historic Aurora sign was hand-painted by veteran Aurora area sign-painter Pat Finley. Joshua Schultz photo
