The late change in seasons means leaves are falling slower than usual. Consequently, Aurora residents, similar to many other communities, icluding Naperville which will end Saturday, Dec. 4, will have more time to rake leaves.
The Aurora free Fall Leaf Collection Program set to initially Friday, Dec. 3, has been extended. Leaves will be collected for free through Friday, Dec. 10, with no waste sticker needed. As an added service, Groot will collect bagged leaves with a waste sticker the following week from Monday, Dec. 13 through Friday, Dec. 17.
Leaves must be put into a 30-gallon paper yard waste bag and placed at the curb on the regular garbage pickup day by 6 a.m..
Yard waste collection will be extended through Friday, Dec. 17 as well. On the regular garbage pickup day, yard waste must be placed in a 30-gallon paper yard waste bag not to exceed 50 pounds. Each bag must have a waste sticker attached. The stickers used for yard waste are the same as the stickers used for excess garbage. Yard waste mixed with trash or yard waste in a trash can or plastic bag will not be collected.
