Aurora Lions assist at Hesed House

“We Serve” is Lions Clubs International’s motto.

Aurora Lions Club members put the motto into action Saturday, Feb. 24 at Hesed House homeless shelter in Aurora.

A dozen Lions volunteers cooked and served lunches for approximately 200 shelter residents. The menu included sloppy joe sandwiches, cole slaw, fruit cocktail, chips, and a cookie.

Volunteers at a men’s lunch were Lions Joe Beary, Arvid Meyer, Ricky Riekert, Randy Brown, Tim Snyder, Jay Short, and Tom Muth. Susan Koepke, Carrie Snyder, and Jill Muth served at the women’s facility.

Founded in 1922, Aurora Lions Club is celebrating he start of its second century of community service.

Open to men and women interested in community service, the Club meets at noon on the first and third Thursdays at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 27 S. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora. Prospective members are invited.

With the motto “We Serve,” Lions volunteers focus on supporting causes including hearing and vision impairment, hunger, the environment, diabetes, and childhood cancer.
