Enhancing life and legacy.
That’s the motto of Katrina Boatright, Aurora’s director of senior and disability services. Boatright detailed her department’s offerings in a speech at the November 7 Aurora Lions Club membership luncheon at Pomegranate Restaurant in Aurora.
Boatright cited AARP statistics that predict by 2030, one of every five people in the U.S. will be 65 or older. She said her objective is “to be a bridge for local older adults and those with diverse abilities to resources and opportunities that support and enhance their life and contributions as residents in the community.”
Boatright distributed fliers announcing an online senior services guide and CARS, City of Aurora Ride Solution. For seniors age 60 and older and disabled persons, CARS allots seven free rides monthly for medical, nutrition, employment and wellness/recreation purposes. Rides may be scheduled in advance, on demand or in a will call status.
Boatright invited senior Lions to sign up for a city database that announces events for seniors and disabled. Lawn mowing and snow shoveling are other services offered.
A flier announced a free home delivery or sit-down holiday meal program for seniors 60-plus. The sit-down event opens at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Third Ward Club, 612 Fifth Ave. in Aurora. Registration deadline is Dec. 6. Call Senior Services Associates, Inc., of Aurora at (630) 897-4035.
The event is co-sponsored by Third Ward Club, Senior Services Associates, City of Aurora and Aurora Township.
