Aurora Lions Club volunteers took their vision-conservation focus on the road Saturday, Feb. 1.
Volunteers hosted an information table and performed youth vision screenings at Santori Aurora Public Library’s third annual Early Childhood Resource Fair.
Jay Short, club first vice president and co-service chair, reported Lions volunteers provided 34 youth vision exams, with seven youth referred for more screening.
In addition to Short, Lions volunteers included Randall “Randy” Brown, president; Susan Koepke, past president; Tom Voigt and Saul Oliva.
Lions also accepted donations for a sneaker recycling program. The DeKalb-based Lions of Illinois Foundation partners with gotsneakers.com to turn sneakers into funds to support Lions’ vision and hearing programs and services.
The free resource fair also featured face painting, a meet and greet with Winnie the Pooh and raffles for gift baskets and two strollers.
Aurora Lions continue monthly vision exams for youth six months to age 16 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, at the library. Registration is not required, walk-ins are welcome. Aurora Lions conduct exams on the third Saturday of each month at the downtown library.
