The Aurora Navy League Council 247 will hold its Tuesday Nov. 21 dinner meeting at the private room of the Riverview Diner, IL-25 and Mill St, Montgomery, IL.
A reception will begin promptly at 5 p.m. followed by a meeting at 5:30 p.m. with dinner afterward. The cost is $25 all-inclusive if an entree is ordered, or $20 for the dinner salad featured that evening. Free entry without food. The meeting will conclude no later than 8 p.m..
You do not need to be a member of the Navy League, or have a reservation, to attend the in-person meeting, the general public is welcome.
The after-dinner speakers are Kendall County States Attorney Eric Weis and Oswego Police Chief Jason Batin whose topic is: How New Illinois Criminal Laws Effect Law Enforcement, Prosecutors and You. These new laws, including the SAFE-T Act, have both positive and negative effects, both will be discussed, and the impact on YOU will be highlighted.
Eric Weis was elected as State’s Attorney for Kendall County in November 2006. Prior to being elected, Eric served as the first assistant State’s Attorney, since 2002. During that time, Eric served as the chief felony prosecutor for major violent and drug-related offenses which occurred in Kendall County.
Eric began his legal career with the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s office in 1995 and was sworn in as an assistant State’s Attorney in 1997. Eric was admitted to the Illinois Bar as well as the Federal Bar in 1997 after graduating with honors from Northern Illinois University College of Law. He was born and raised in Oswego and currently lives in Yorkville. Eric has two children, Justin and Ryan. He has been a member of many volunteer organizations within the community; including a member of the Bristol-Kendall Fire Protection District as a firefighter/EMT, as well as a coaching for local youth sports.
Jason Bastin , Oswego Police Chief, is a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1994 – 1999 as a Field Medic with the United States Marine Corp. Jason was stationed in Okinawa at Camp Schwab, at MCAS Miramar and MCB Camp Pendleton in California, and aboard the USS Peleliu when deployed with the 13th MEU to the Middle East as part of exercise Eager Mace. He began his police career with the Winfield Police Department in 2003, before joining the Oswego Police Department in 2005. With the Oswego Police Department Jason has served as a patrol officer, field training officer, school resource officer, patrol sergeant, detective sergeant, patrol commander, and deputy chief of support services. Jason was appointed as the interim chief of police in June of this year and promoted to the chief of police in September. Jason attended college at San Diego Miramar, the University of California San Diego and received his bachelor’s from Benedictine University. Jason has been married to his beautiful wife for nearly 25 years and has two daughters. His oldest daughter enlisted in the Air National Guard last year and attending her boot camp graduation was one of the highlights of Jason’s life.
All are invited to this event. Only those who order a meal are required to pay for the meal. Others may attend at no-charge.
The Aurora Council is having a membership drive, and will pay half of the first year’s dues for new members. This is an excellent opportunity to attend an interesting event, and determine whether you would like to join permanently.
