The after dinner speaker is Mr. Andrew Sosnowski whose topic is The Challenges of the SAFE-T-Act to Prosecutors and How Their Actions Affect Your Personal Safety. Crime in many suburban communities is growing; people are concerned that the rampant crime in some neighborhoods in Chicago is coming to us. Mr. Sosnowski will address questions such as:

•Under what circumstances can an elected prosecutor use discretion in making decisions related to existing laws – i.e., charging individuals vs not charging, and sentencing?

•How do these decisions affect crime in our communities?

•What can we do to prevent our communities from descending into lawlessness?

Andrew J. Sosnowski is an accomplished attorney and legal advisor with more than 30 years of experience. A lifelong Illinois resident, he is committed to upholding justice and keeping the community safe. Born in Chicago and raised in Calumet City, Sosnowski comes from humble beginnings as the child of an immigrant. He worked through college as a laborer at the AMOCO Oil Refinery in Whiting, Ind.. Mr. Sosnowski began his career as a prosecutor in Kane and McHenry Counties. He tried felony cases and earned a reputation as a tough but fair prosecutor. In 1997, he was appointed Chief of Kane County’s new Family Justice Division, targeting issues like domestic violence and child abuse

In his private law firm he represents clients in a wide range of legal matters, including personal injury, insurance disputes, family law, and criminal defense. Through this private practice, Sosnowski gained valuable perspective on the civil and criminal justice systems. He represented plaintiffs who were wrongfully injured or denied insurance benefits. He also defended individuals accused of crimes, ensuring their constitutional rights were protected.

Andrew is currently a candidate for Kane County State Attorney. He is committed to bringing criminals to justice, protecting children, and serving victims. He will partner with law enforcement, schools, nonprofits, and the community to make Kane County safer. In his free time, He enjoys spending time with his children and grandchild, who attend school in the area.

The Aurora Council needs to expand its membership. This is our only source of funds to help the Junior Navy and AF ROTC units in area High Schools. It will pay half of the first year’s dues for new members. This is an excellent opportunity to attend an interesting event, and determine whether you would like to join permanently.
