One-hundred years of Aurora Noon Lions Club history is on display at the David L. Pierce Art and History Center in Aurora.

Celebrating the Noon Lions’ centennial year, the exhibit opened Friday, Aug. 5, at the center, 20 E. Downer Place in Aurora.

Admission is free. Hours are noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The display, in an Aurora Historical Society case, runs through August.

The unveiling was part of Aurora First Fridays, a monthly celebration sponsored by Downtown Aurora, a nonprofit of business and property owners.

Susan Koepke of Aurora, Noon Lions president, greeted center visitors and offered information.

Memorabilia displayed includes photos, news clippings and a proclamation by Aurora mayor Richard Irvin that declared July 28 “Aurora Noon Lions Club Day” in Aurora. The Club was chartered by Lions Clubs International July 28, 1922.

Other artifacts include vintage Lions neckwear, jewelry and a poster honoring Noon Lions for raising $250,000 in war bonds for a B-17 bomber that the Air Force named “City of Aurora” during World War II.

With 30 members, Aurora Noon Lions Club meets on first and third Thursdays at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 27 S. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora.
