The Aurora Police Department is investigating an apparent murder-suicide on the city’s east side Monday, Sept. 28 evening.
Just before 4:30 p.m., Aurora’s 911 Telecommunications Center received a call requesting officers to check the welfare of a family member inside of an apartment in the 1600 block of McClure Avenue. They told officers that they had been trying to get in touch with an adult female who resides at the residence all day without any luck.
Officers responded to the condominium complex and met with the landlord who gave them access to the unit. When officers entered the unit, they found an adult male and an adult female inside deceased from gunshot wounds in an apparent murder-suicide.
Detectives from the Aurora Police Department’s Bureau of Investigations responded to the scene and began investigating the specific circumstances of the incident. Evidence Technicians responded to the scene to identify and collect forensic evidence from the shooting.
As investigators began speaking to neighbors and collecting preliminary statements, they learned that a man had heard gunshots in the area at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, but the man did not call police to report them.
The Kane County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and to take possession of the deceased individuals. The coroner’s office will perform an autopsy and determine the exact cause and manner of death in the coming days.
Detectives are still investigating the incident, but preliminarily information leads them to believe that this a domestic-related incident.
